I just did this little operation on my 04 Volusia. It only took only 30 minutes and worked like a charm. I tried to do it in such a way that I could undo it and still use the remote later if I wanted. I placed the circuit board back into half of the casing and then zip tied a nut to hold the button down and to hold the board in the casing. I put another zip tie on it to make sure she holds. Then I taped it up. I also velcroed the remote at the 12 o'clock position inside the headlight so that it wouldn't move around in there and keep it aimed forward.

OK, I followed the instructions in the post, and afterwards it worked fine using the Pass button. The next day after work, it worked fine as well. Then following day after work...nothing. When I checked my wire connectors and reinstalled, the garage door worked when I clicked my high beams on (opened door) and back off (closed door). I uninstalled and reinstalled, and then nothing...high beam button doesn't even operate garage door. My headlight low and high beams still work, but the garage door doesn't.
I used what was available to me at the time. We have a Chamberlain Security + door opener and a two-button Clicker remote. I assume the 2-button will work just as well as a 1-button. I taped the head of a metal thumb tack to one of the buttons on the mother board. The second I left alone. I only had 14 guage wire, so I used that instead of 18. My remote uses a 9V battery, not 12v. I was wrong in my previous post. I used wire connectors (blue...14-18 guage) where the 2 wires sit side-by-side, you push the metal clip down onto both wires, then a plastic piece clips over the whole connector). Any ideas on where the problem could be? I velcroed the unit to the inside of my headlight unit so it wouldn't move around.

I want to do this mod, but have a question... I would like to use my pass button only (not using the headlight hi/low switch, a relay, etc). I have a Genie remote that is 9v, so I plan on using the remotes 9v battery for power. I just need the two wires from my pass switch to go to the button on my remote.
I traced the two wires from my pass switch (red and orange/red) and the bundle of left hand switch cables to my headlight housing. However, from that bundle there is only the orange/red wire - and no red wire. I confirmed the continuity of the orange/red wire with a multi-meter. But no red wire is present. I do not see anywhere else where it could be... What am I missing? Last edited by WSKelly; 04-12-2013 at 11:30 AM. |

You can save yourself a lot of headache by not trying to tap in at the pass switch.
Flash to Pass / Garage Door Remote This approach still uses the flass to pass switch, but fixes the problem of draining the remote battery while using the high beams. I've been using the same circuit board for this for over 3 years without a problem.

Thanks. I just finished the installation on my Volusia and it works great. I took the rubber button and taped it down in the closed position until I can solder the contacts closed.
Thanks again. Dave |
